Renfe has launched a new direct AVE high-speed train service between Malaga and Barcelona, cutting travel time to just under six hours. Starting 16 September, the train departs daily from Malaga (except Saturdays) at 5:57pm, with stops in Cordoba, Madrid, Zaragoza, and arrives in Barcelona at 11:55pm. The return service leaves Barcelona at 5:50am, reaching Malaga at 12:36pm.
From 15 December, private operator Iryo will introduce its own direct service between the two cities. With stops in Cordoba, Madrid, and Zaragoza, Iryo’s journey will take just under six hours, offering two daily frequencies. These new services expand travel options, connecting the Costa del Sol to Barcelona more efficiently.
In addition to the direct routes, Renfe also provides nearly ten other travel options by combining trains through Madrid’s Atocha station, making it easier for passengers to find a suitable schedule. With both Renfe and Iryo increasing connectivity, travelers now have more flexibility than ever when journeying between southern and northern Spain.
