Malaga is gearing up for the festive season, with its renowned Christmas lights and shows set to dazzle visitors once again. The city’s traditional lighting and sound show, which marks the official start of the holiday celebrations, will take place on Friday, November 29, in what promises to be another magical display.
Calle Larios: Enchanted Forest of Lights
As is tradition, the star of the show will be the Calle Larios, the city’s main shopping street, which will transform into an enchanted forest of Christmas lights. Following the success of last year’s display, this year’s show will once again feature a stunning light and sound performance, filling the street with festive cheer. The centerpiece will be an array of twinkling lights and Christmas elves, bringing an enchanted atmosphere to the heart of Malaga.
Though specifics about new features are still under wraps, it is expected that video-mapping projections next to the city’s iconic cathedral will return for a third year, along with the drone light show in the port area, which was a big hit in previous years. The city’s Alameda Principal will once again be transformed into a forest of lights, with local lighting company Ximénez already preparing the wiring for the spectacular show.
Botanical Garden Light Show
A highlight of the season will be the Christmas show at the La Concepción Botanical Garden, now a beloved annual tradition. This year, the event is titled “Illusion. Christmas has many faces but only one heart”. The show will be available from Friday, November 29, until January 6, and tickets are already on sale at lucesdelaconcepcion.es.
The show will run in time slots from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM, with new groups allowed entry every 30 minutes. Each time slot will be limited to 400 visitors, ensuring an intimate and enjoyable experience. Tickets are priced at €15.50 for adults and €11.50 for children, and the show will be closed on December 24 and 31.
Lantern Festival: A New Holiday Attraction
A major new event this Christmas will be the Lantern Festival, which will take place in West Park from November 30 to February 15. Though inspired by the Chinese New Year, this festival will coincide with the beginning of Malaga’s Christmas celebrations. Visitors can explore an area of three hectares illuminated by 600 lanterns and 4,000 points of light, creating a magical atmosphere perfect for the holiday season.
The festival will feature a variety of activities, including a Chinese New Year parade, workshops on lantern making, calligraphy, and traditional Chinese performances, including music, theatre, and dance. Tickets are now available for purchase through festivalaldelaslinternasmalaga.es, with prices ranging from €15 to €20 depending on the day, though a special early-bird promotion offers tickets for €14.
